Annual Energy Conference

October 2018
Moody's HQ

This conference will explore how Moody’s see the energy industry evolving and balancing the conflicting demands for shareholder rewards, stronger credit profiles and growth

The energy industry is moving toward a more traditional industrial business model with a focus on capital discipline, modest growth aspirations and consistent free cash flow generation following a painful retrenchment in capital spending and operating costs, accelerated asset sales and dividend cuts. While oil prices are much higher than most industry participants, investors and analysts expected, energy company management teams are contending with greater scrutiny by equity and debt capital markets.

Key topics for discussion

  • How are upstream E&P companies tackling pressure they are experiencing?
  • Can services companies differentiate themselves? And when will they be able to regain pricing power?
  • Will more midstream infrastructure help producers reduce bottlenecks and narrow price differentials?
  • What challenges will Latin American companies face in a post-election reality?

This breakout will discuss how upstream and integrated companies are working to improve credit metrics and free cash flow through greater focus on capital discipline, while debt balances remain high and infrastructure constraints and rising services costs present headwinds.

Drilling & Services

This breakout will discuss how the services sector  is recovering from very distressed levels. Higher oil prices and increased upstream spending is lifting utilization and pricing, but profitability and balance sheets are still weak.

Midstream & Refining

This breakout will discuss how the midstream sector is taking advantage of basin-specific growth opportunities as producers seek relief from wide differentials, while coping with how to fund their growth. Refiners gear up for IMO 2020.
