3:00 PM Opening Remarks

Speaker:

  • Michael Rowan, Managing Director, US Public Finance, Moody’s Investors Service

3:10 PM Session 1: Keynote Conversation: Moody’s & the markets: the future of credit and risk analysis

How do we predict the credit risks of the future? Can big data and technology help to forecast unknown risks? Are there new resources that can help inform municipal credit analysis? Join Moody’s Chief Operating Officer to discuss new initiatives in our assessment and analysis of traditional financial and economic factors, ESG factors and current and emerging risks.

Speakers:

  • Rob Fauber, Incoming CEO & President, Moody’s Corporation
  • Gail Sussman, Senior Vice President, Moody’s Investors Service

4:00 PM Session 2: ESG Innovation: data informed, qualitatively driven risk analysis

Moody’s approach to incorporating environmental, social, and governance considerations into our credit ratings is an innovative mix of data driven analysis and qualitative assessments. The panel will provide a diversity of viewpoints on how data can be used to drive ESG analysis, from determining risk to making investment decisions. Representatives from Moody’s will review our proposed ESG risk scores, and the data that informs those scores.  Four Twenty Seven, an affiliate of Moody’s, will do a deep dive into the data they use to assess environmental risks.  The Ford Foundation will tackle the question from the perspective of both a major investor, with a $14 billion endowment, and as an issuer of one of the largest social bonds ever, $1 billion to provide funds for nonprofits impacted by the pandemic.

Moderator:

  • Susan Fitzgerald, Associate Managing Director, US Public Finance, Moody's Investors Service

Panelists:

  • Emilie Mazzacurati, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Four Twenty Seven

3:00 PM Opening Remarks

Speaker:

  • Michael Rowan, Managing Director, US Public Finance, Moody’s Investors Service

3:10 PM Session 3: “What’s next? Credit in the shift from expansion to recovery”

After 10 years of economic expansion, the credit environment in the US has shifted gears with astonishing rapidity. The coronavirus crisis and ensuing recession will lead to fundamental shifts in some things we have come to take for granted, like the irresistibility of cities (or will it?), intensify issues already evident such as income disparities and increase overall credit uncertainty over the near term. This panel will address assessing the permanency and transience of some public finance credit trends through this cycle.

Moderator:

  • Marcia Van Wagner, Vice President – Senior Credit Officer, State Ratings, US Public Finance

Panelists:

  • Earl Heffintrayer, Vice President – Senior Analyst, Public & Project Infrastructure Finance, Moody’s Investors Service
  • Rachael McDonald, Vice President – Senior Credit Officer, US Housing Finance & State Revolving Funds, US Public Finance, Moody’s Investors Service
  • Vikram Rai, Managing Director & Head of Municipal Strategy, Citigroup Global Markets, Inc.
  • Atsi Sheth, Managing Director, Credit Strategy, Moody’s Investors Service

4:00 PM Session 4: Moody’s Public Finance senior leaders roundtable

Moody’s senior leaders will briefly discuss the key credit challenges facing the states, local governments, infrastructure, healthcare, higher education and housing sectors, followed by questions from conference attendees. What are the credit implications for public finance from the recent elections? What are Moody’s latest insights on the ties between legal security and fundamental credit risk? How has cyber risk evolved?
